High Schools PROJECT OF DISTINCTION OUTSTANDING DESIGN + ARCHITECTURE IN EDUCATION 12
Centennial Gymnasium EPISCOPAL HIGH SCHOOL, ALEXANDRIA, VA. A $25-MILLION INITIATIVE TO IMPROVE THE ATHLETIC
facilities of Episcopal High School, one of the nation's most prestigious pri- vate boarding schools, includes a 60,000-square-foot addition to Centennial Gymnasium, which originally opened in 1939 and is one of several traditional
brick structures on the scenic academic campus. The addition triples the size of the existing facility with a two-court auxiliary gym-
nasium, a fitness center, a team meeting room, boys' and girls' locker rooms and a hall of fame area with exhibit display. The project also encompasses renovation of Centen- nial Gymnasium's ground level, including the visitors' locker room, training spaces and equipment storage, and conceptual design for a new field house and football locker rooms.
