High Schools PROJECT OF DISTINCTION OUTSTANDING DESIGN + ARCHITECTURE IN EDUCATION 12 Cedar Ridge High School ROUND ROCK INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT, ROUND ROCK, TEXAS L OCATED ON A GENEROUS SUBURBAN SITE, CEDAR RIDGE High School expresses the progressive educational program while reflecting a modern interpretation of the vernacular architecture. The planning clearly organizes collaborative, project-based learning environments in a way that effectively allows students to navigate through the facility, establishing four independent small learning clusters and career academies: International Business and Economics, Professional Studies, STEM and Visual and Performing Arts. These zones have been or- ganized around a central core that separates public and private spaces, creating outdoor learning courtyards providing a secure, flexible space for additional learning ac- tivities. Each academy contains individual distributed media centers, administration suites and teacher planning areas to provide one-on-one teacher to student interaction while providing fingertip access to each differ- ent academic curriculum. In addition to utilizing tilt-up as the primary construction methodology, the design embraces additional materials to establish a more sophisticated interpretation of the regional hill-country aesthetic. The use of concrete, complemented by natural limestone, reinforces the permanence of the architecture and anchors the building to the site. Win- dows are integrated into the architecture, maximizing the indoor/outdoor connection while also protecting solar heat gain. Cedar Ridge High School is LEED certified.
