A HERE COME THE JUDGES. . . s usual, all of the entries we received were of exceptional quality, making the judging process a diffi cult one. We had two panels of judges — one examining the K-12 entries and one panel dedicated to the higher educational facilities — study the submissions, and each panel chose Grand Prize winners, Honorable Mentions and Projects of Distinction from the projects that they felt were the most outstanding in those two levels of education. This year's judges are: Paul Abramson Paul Abramson is president of Stanton Leggett & Associates. He has been involved with education publications for more than 50 years (he helped start School Management in 1957), and has been car- rying out major statistical studies of education since 1958. He has been desig- nated Planner of the Year by the Northeast region of CEFPI and is a candidate for the national Planner of the Year Award. He was an associate of, and writer for, Educational Facilities Laboratories and writes a monthly column for School Planning & Management entitled "A Final Thought." Tracy Healy Tracy Healy, REFP, is the president of DeJONG- HEALY, an educational facility planning fi rm specializing in enroll- ment projections and demographic studies. She combines almost 20 years of experience with her desire to enhance learning environments for students around the world. Tracy is also involved with CEFPI, the Council of Educa- tional Facility Planners, International. Mary Beth McGrew Mary Beth McGrew is the university architect and the AVP of Planning + Design + Construction at the University of Cincinnati (UC). Her major respon- sibilities at UC include: coordination of the campus and facilities planning for all the campuses that make up UC; coordina- tion of capital planning efforts for the University's built environment; and development of standards for the campus and participation in the University's long range plan, including coordination of the Climate Action Plan. She coordinates the effort of approximately 40 architects, engineers, planners and construction managers and reports to the Sr. VP of Finance and Administration. Tom Rushin Tom Rushin is an Arizona native with 45 years of experience in the fi eld of education. He has been a teacher, a coach, a principal, an associate superintendent and a superintendent. He has led school district planning committees, bond elections campaigns and developed building programs, developed edu- cational specifi cations and worked with a variety of architectural fi rms through all phases of building design and construction. He is currently interim chairman of the Arizona School Facilities Board. Martin Sharpless Martin Sharpless, an A/E/C industry leader with Board-level accomplishments and deep client and design fi rm relationships built over a 25+ year career in the Mid-Atlantic region, is a vice president with Gilbane Building Company in Arlington, Va. Prior to working for Gilbane, Martin was an associate with KlingStubbins (formerly Kling, Kling Lindquist, TKLP), a major architectural/engineering fi rm in Philadelphia, Penn., and Washington, D.C. Jeff rey Sronkoski Jeffrey Sronkoski, AIA, LEED-AP, is principal-in- charge of Legat Architects' Higher Education practice. His 33 years of experience include planning and design for community colleges, as well as public and private colleges and universities. Jeff's projects include campus master plans, student centers, satellite campuses, science and technology buildings, performing arts centers and many other facility types. He has spoken and written about diverse higher education topics for many venues, including College Planning & Management magazine and the Society for College and University Planning.
