Remote from the Owosso, Mich., campus, the former ADI was housed in a renovated building not originally designed for the high-tech program. With the unique program's growth, a new on-campus ADI facility with state-of-the-art labs, bays and classrooms became a priority for the college. Designers sited the new facility on a main campus thoroughfare, including an identifable entrance for students and visitors. In addition to its function as a "student hangout" area, a two-story glass-flled entrance "gallery" is intended for displays, college receptions, career fairs and community events. The facility includes three high-bay diesel labs and two automotive labs with hydraulic lifts and an overhead door. Smaller learning labs are the ideal size for engine assembly and disassembly, as well as other smaller vehicle parts instruction. Three lecture classrooms, administrative offces, storage and parts cribs are also included. Durable yet cost-effective materials and fnishes were utilized throughout to respond to a tight budget. Exposed building systems provide an opportunity for students to "look under the hood" of their new facility. Plenty of natural light and color selections complement the industrial and high-tech look of the institute. EDS 13 ArCHITECT Tmp architecture, inc.
