CaseHistories RE AL-WORLD SOLU T IONS Campus Upgrades to Induction Lighting C ALIFORNIA STATE University, Chico is the secondoldest campus in the 23-campus California State University system and home to over 16,000 students. The University has adopted a strong sustainability initiative and received several honors based on their "green" efforts. Adopting these standards for energy savings requires a disciplined operating specification to follow, and the University enlisted GreenTech of Ventura, CA, to seek out a commercial lighting solution that would meet their facility codes while improving illumination, and significantly lowering energy costs. "The EverLast Aluminum High Bay fixture simply exceeds all criteria in terms of an energy efficient lighting solution for a large scale facility," comments Dan Grumney, president of GreenTech. "GreenTech insists on delivering the most energy efficient lighting solutions to the West Coast, and we often utilize the EverLast fixtures based on their quality and compatibility with even the most demanding specification criteria." In the summer of 2012, the University moved forward with 200-watt High Bays, and 55-watt energy-efficient induction Contemporary walkway fi xtures and installed them in gymnasiums and along campus walkways. "We knew we needed energy efficient lighting, but once we began factoring in lowered labor and maintenance costs, a 10-year warranty, and improved illumination, induction lighting made the most sense," states Craig Cardoza, outside sales representative of CED, Chico. "We couldn't be happier with the EverLast fixtures based on their performance and warranty." The EverLast 250-watt Aluminum High Bay and 55-watt Contemporary Walkway "Our high bay lighting solutions are above and beyond light quality and energy efficiency," explains Brandon Marken, vice president of Sales at EverLast Lighting. fi xtures provide light with a more natural, high color rendition and unlike traditional HID fi xtures are "instant on" and easily dimmed. Furthermore, induction uses up to 60 percent less energy and has an unmatched life span of up to 100,000 hours. www.everlastlight.com University Replaces Restroom Fixtures W ITH CONSTANT USE, extremely high traffic, and various visitors each day, the fixtures in college dormitory restrooms need to be durable and stylish… providing an atmosphere that feels like home, but performs like a public space. When its existing bathroom products couldn't meet these requirements, the University of Connecticut turned to Moen Commercial to properly outfit its facilities to meet their needs. "The faucets and showerheads previously installed just couldn't stand up to the level of use our dormitory bathrooms experience on a daily basis," says Linda Sumner, QCW carpenter at University of Connecticut. "Not only would they break and malfunction; when we had to make service calls, the parts were often unavailable. "To keep this from negatively affecting our students, we knew we needed to make a switch. So we looked to the Moen Commercial products, and the quality we've received from Moen is just so much better. " Before switching to the M•Dura line of commercial bathroom faucets, Sumner says the handles of the previous products kept breaking off, leaving the faucets inoperable. Now, the products can withstand the rigors of dorm usage, both at the sink and in the shower. "In addition to the bathroom faucets, we also installed new Moen products in the shower, which provide valuable water savings. Being in the dorms, products get a lot of abuse, and not only are they sturdier, they look nicer, too." Moen Commercial Eco-Performance showerheads flow at 1.5 gal. per minute (gpm), compared to the current standard of 2.5 gpm.
